BIFLEX

Double flexion - front and side - more comfortable and precise.

HELL FIT SYSTEM

Padding where foot support is maximised thanks to the shape of the sponge that hugs the ankle and prevents unwanted movement.

COMFORT FLEX

Unique flex system that allows longitudinal movement of the leg without opposition or pain

TPNET

TPU injection system to support the heel and protect the textile of the upper

STRAP TONGUE

Three-piece tongue system where the user can adjust the height depending on the morphology of the leg

TERMAL LAYER

A thermal insulation system using Thinsulate® to completely surround the foot with no cold spots. The Thinsulate® lining is fixed in place without adhesives to maximise loft. The base of the boot is uniquely insulated with Triple layer Thinsulate underfoot minimise heat lost through the sole unit

XTP FOOTBED

Specially insulated insole to reduce heat loss

INTEGRATED RAND

Toe rubber rand patented by BOREAL to avoid the lamination of the front of the rubber sheet

dryline

Dry-Line is more than just a membrane. It is made out of several layers which combine to give full waterproof protection with class leading breathability.

v-label

V-Label is the internationally recognised label for vegetarian or vegan products, which have been thoroughly tested.

dry-line / dry-line xtp

Stay dry, stay cool

Dry-Line® is more than just a membrane. It is made out of several layer s which combine to give full waterproof protection with class leading breathability. Other waterproof lining systems only allow for horizontal transmission of water vapour but the special construction of Dry-Line® also allows for vertical transmission.

technical information

Ultimate all-round performance

Zenith Pro is our top performing rubber compound for all types of high level climbing.

Long-lasting
performance

Zenith Quattro provides long lasting, versatile performance.

Ultra High
Friction

Zenith Ultra is our stickiest compound, offering outstanding friction on marginal smears in steep terrain.

Ultimate
durability

Endurance is our most durable rubber for extremely high wear applications.

Shoe fit

A rock climbing shoe should fit “comfortably tight” throughout and never cause pain at any one particular point (especially in the toe box). Shoes fitted in this manner will stretch and produce a personalized fit after a while. Boots that produce painful “pressure points” usually won’t stretch out after the initial breaking in period.

The last

The most important factor affecting the shoe’s fit is the shape of the last, the model “foot” around which the shoe is constructed. Boreal incorporates certain anatomical shapes in its lasts to achieve various effects depending upon what each shoe is designed for (technical edging, sport climbing, competition, long routes, etc.). The two most important characteristics of the last are the amount of “Flex” it has and the shape of its “Sole”.

MIX 2 FIT

Mixed lacing and velcro system that locks perfectly in a quick and easy way.

SLIM FIT LAST

Special Boreal last for a great fit for people with narrow feet.

CUSHIONED HEEL

Cushioning system in the heel of the cat's feet for greater comfort during prolonged use.

ANKLE LACE

Fastening system at the heel gives a better fit and avoids foot movement inside the shoe.

INTEGRAL RAND

The IRS system goes a step further in the manufacturing of climbing shoes. This one piece climbing sole never deforms and has a superior fit. We can achieve different thickneses in the rubber and the one piece construction avoids possible delamination.

LATERAL TORSION

The Lateral Torsion System supports the foot without compromising flexibility.

V2 RAND

Rand system for climbing shoes which thanks to its double tension provides a great fit for the heel and the arch of the foot.

WRAP RAND

Surrounds the foot and supports it in the best position for optimum strength and precision.

FRICTION SKIN

The Friction Skin coating provides a durable yet supple layer over the toes to enhance toe hooking ability without compromising comfort.

eco rubber

Recycled rubber in soles to reduce the environmental impact of our products.

v-label

V-Label is the internationally recognised label for vegetarian or vegan products, which have been thoroughly tested.

slip-lasting

The slip-lasting method of construction involves sewing the leather uppers to the leather insole to create a kind of "sock". The sock is then slipped over the last and the midsole (if desired), rands, and soles are then glued on. This method of construction produces shoes that are lightweight, flexible, and very sensitive.
Slip-lasting is prefered for cambered lasts because stiff midsoles are not necessary to obtain edging performance and would destroy sensitivity with these types of shoes.
Slip lasted shoes are perfect for sport climbing, steep faces, and indoor climbing. The midsoles are very thin and provide incredible sensitivity and flexiblity.

board-lasting

Board-lasting involves placing the laced uppers over the top of the last and wrapping them underneath and gluing them to the preplaced insole attached to the bottom of the last. Another midsole then fills in the center of the sole so that the rands and sole can be glued on. Because the insole is mounted inside the shoe, this method produces shoes with more integrity and durability. Board-lasting is utilized with semi-flexed lasts because when the insole is mounted inside the uppers, the shoes already have sufficient stiffness for edging and are more comfortable to wear.
Board-lasted shoes are great for edging routes, long faces, and crack climbs. Because of their thicker midsoles and interiorly mounted insole, these shoes are stiffer and offer greater support and durability.

BOREAL produces all climbing shoes, mountaineering and trekking boots, W.A. and Trail running shoes and the majority of the other products in-house at the factory in Villena. The unique rubber compounds are exclusively used throughout the whole rock shoe range and are produced in the own factory, as well as a smaller selection of the trekking sole units such as the famous FDS-3. BOREAL takes great care in sourcing raw materials from only the best suppliers and the overwhelming majority of the raw materials are sourced from within Europe. Quality control is paramount and the on-site factory laboratory works constantly tests the quality of all raw materials entering the factory.

Although many processes are mechanised, the footwear remains handmade and this is reflected in the finished product. There is no substitute for the keen eye and ‘feel’ of an experienced artisan and this is why BOREAL chooses to do many things in the traditional way. For example, all leather hides are individually inspected for imperfections and then orientated and cut by hand to make best use of the infinite subtle variations of grain and stretch of the leather hide. Skills like this take time to learn and cannot simply be replicated by a computer.

Probably the best part of BOREAL is the committed team of people working at the factory in Villena, Spain. Many employees stay at BOREAL for their entire careers. The company values and rewards the employees and we believe this is reflected in the consistent high quality of the footwear produced.
